Katy
Cornell is a licensed clinical social worker who earned her Master of Social Work degree
from Loyola University Chicago. Ms. Cornell is an instructor at the School of Social Work
at Loyola, edits two social work publications, has presented on child behavior issues at
local preschools, and has provided clinical supervision for beginning therapists. Ms.
Cornell is a doctoral candidate at Loyola University Chicago, with research interests in
child therapy, parenting, and relational theory. She has advanced training in work with
children under five, attachment issues, trauma, and adoption.
Personal Statement:
My years working with adults, children and families have convinced me of the power of
authentic, responsive, and reflective relationships to help people of all ages to heal. I
have repeatedly been honored by the being able to accompany individuals and families from
the experiences of intense pain, anxiety, disruption and loss to a renewed sense of
growth, strength, and joy. I believe that we all possess an innate ability to heal if we
are given the opportunity through empowering relationships to reclaim our strength. My
experience and my faith in human potential allow me to sustain my commitment to clients
through even the most trying experiences, knowing that the kernel of hope and strength
still exists even in our darkest hours.
Treatment Areas:
Ms. Cornell has experience in treating behavioral and conduct disorders, childrens
issues, personality disorders, relationship issues, adoption issues, attachment issues,
multicultural issues, trauma, sexual abuse, dating violence, adolescent issues,
womens issues, and family disruption.
Treatment Modalities:
Ms. Cornell provides play therapy, individual therapy, family therapy, parent
consultation, and parent-child psychotherapy. She works with adults, children ages 3-18,
young adults, and families.

Ms. Cornell is in network with Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPO.
She a member of the National Association of Social
Workers (NASW), the Illinois Society for Clinical Social (ISCSW), the International
Association of Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy (IARPP), and the Illinois
Association for Infant Mental Health (IAIMH).
